The poetry of Hafiz remains an inspiration to many who are seeking a deeper meaning in life and insight into 'the path of Love'. The verses are still treasured by many students of Sufism as texts for meditation.
In this new translation, 109 lyrics from the Diwan have been selected for their poetic and spiritual merits. Accompanying notes seek to indicate deeper meanings hidden within the verses, and to clarify unfamiliar terms. The translator has included an extensive introduction which considers Hafiz not only as a supreme singer of mystical sentiments, but also as a masterly court poet, whose life experience embraced both the secular and the spiritual.
